• Renegade Lights releases first record

RL#00001 is the first release from Renegade Lights Media on double vinyl and digital formats.

The first ever record release from San Francisco based media label Renegade Lights Media, RL#00001, is now on sale.

“The release was simply the next step, after doing several successful shows, towards creating a more complete vehicle for presenting our art and sustaining it.” said Raja Das, aka Raja The Resident Alien, musician and owner/operator of Renegade Lights Media.

This genre-busting record is a compilation of 11 songs by electronic musicians including Spacewülf, Edison, Dolza, Mend and more.

“The artists were chosen based on their participation in Renegade Lights events in the past and also based on what I thought might sound good together on a diverse compilation,” Raja said, “I certainly made some executive decisions, but it all began with the artists being willing to show support, enthusiasm and participation.”

“I really like the way all this music fits together into a solid compilation,” said Bartek Karas, aka Jeekoos, one of the artists involved with the record, “even though everyone is bringing their own style into it. Raja saw something that made sense to him and I think it worked out really well.”

Raja sparked the creation of Renegade Lights in Sept. 2010 by hosting an event that was part of the monome Community Tour, and he has hosted other events since then. This record marks the culmination of more than a year’s worth of efforts from the label and community of artists that surround it.

“When I think of Renegade Lights as a concept or cultural movement, I think of the seamless integration of sound and visuals,” said Ryan Keesling aka Searchl1te, one of the artists involved with the release, “I think of collaboration and freedom from genre limits or expectations. I think of experimentation and dreaming. I think of geeky gear and geeks geeking out behind it.”

Although Raja is in charge of the final decisions, all of the artists involved with Renegade Lights have played important roles in the growth of the organization and the creation of this first release, and he hopes to keep the focus on them.

“[The artists] are all involved in most decisions I make while patiently guiding me and supporting me in every move,” Raja said, “Vlad Spears, in particular, has been a key supporter. He helped build our web-presence and is like a dark wizard who simply waves his hand and all of a sudden everyone’s spirits rise and magic starts to happen. But everyone has played a key role at some point or another in our short history.”

Raja hopes to continue the growth of Renegade Lights and support the goals and dreams of all of the artists involved with future releases and events.

“Just like life, I’m thinking of Renegade Lights as an ongoing process rather than a set of goals.” Raja said, “I do have hopes in general, however, that it will grow in recognition and be able to sustain itself. As individual artists, hoping to get better at what we do, if we’re lucky, by figuring out a way to focus our lives around this art because it’s what we love to do the most, we all dream of something similar: to be well sought-after. It would be a hive-mind dream come true if Renegade Lights could be a vehicle whereby many artists could arrive at this same point of fulfillment.

RL#00001, is available in both double vinyl and digital formats through the Renegade Lights website.
