• Julien Bayle and 1111 – minimal A/V installation

It doesn’t get much more minimal than this.

Julien Bayle’s a virtuoso coder and lover of all things minimal. In case you don’t remember him, he was the focus of our last controllerist feature. Besides being one of the few Ableton certified trainers chosen to test and showcase Ableton Live 9 and Push in their respective countries and having made a series of Push videos as a perk (in French – but don’t worry, you’ll understand most of the stuff, it’s visually instructive), he’s been working on a Max audiovisual performance + installation project titled 1111, consisting of four pieces: 0001, 0010, 0100 and 1000. Suggestive, isn’t it?

The purpose of the project is to explore randomness through sounds and visuals: “Each source of sounds and visuals generated is based on chance. Then, the system (installation mode) or myself (performance mode) controls more or less the chaos generated by these source to create an immersive A/V experience.”

The whole thing will be finished around March 8th,and while Julien will be providing a series of performances of the project over the internet (I’m not sure whether they’ll be accessible to everyone), the installation side will be housed in a number of locations, including as part of the Code Control festival in Leicester, which we will be covering.
