• Bespoke Synth

A few months ago at the A3E conference, I was fortunate to spend an evening with Ryan Challinor. Ryan was my collaborator on the free SetListFire Max for Live patch, and he is currently developing an ambitious new piece of music-creation software called Bespoke.

Calling Bespoke a synthesizer is something of an understatement as it includes a huge array of music-making tools in one environment that go far beyond what I think of a “synth”. It is an object-oriented environment similar to Cycling 74′s Max and Native Instrument’s Reaktor, but beyond the box-and-line “patching” analogy of the interface, a comparison between these softwares becomes difficult. Bespoke has some gorgeous and unprecedented interface elements including lots of beautiful visualizations and a freely zoomable canvas. Patching, Modulation and control mappings are all implemented in interesting and very powerful ways, sparking a sense of freedom for those adventurous enough to break the rules typically imposed by DAWs and live performance tools like Ableton.

Watch the sizzler video below for a quick peek, watch this deeper demo video for more details, or track down Ryan on Twitter (@awwbees) if you want to play with the Bespoke alpha.
